SEE EVENTS FOR THE CITY OF PRESTON
This section serves as the Public Notice Area specifically for updates from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). In the event of an emergent or non-emergent public notice issued by KDHE—such as boil water advisories, environmental health alerts, or public health and safety updates—this is where that information will be posted for the community. Residents are encouraged to check this area regularly to stay informed about any KDHE-related announcements that may affect the City of Preston.

Purpose: This report is a yearly snapshot of the water quality provided to Preston residents. It details where the water comes from, what it contains, and how it measures up to EPA and state health standards.
Water Source: The city’s water comes from two groundwater wells.
Testing & Safety:
Preston performs at least two microbiological water tests per month, as required by EPA rules.
If bacteria like coliforms are found, additional testing is done to ensure safety.
Water is treated in compliance with EPA drinking water regulations to remove or reduce harmful contaminants.
Potential Contaminants (before treatment):
Microbial (e.g., bacteria from sewage or animals)
Inorganic (e.g., salts, metals from natural sources or runoff)
Pesticides/Herbicides (e.g., from farming or residential use)
Radioactive (e.g., from natural deposits or mining)
Organic (e.g., chemicals from gas stations or industrial activity)
Health Advisory:
Immunocompromised individuals (those with cancer, HIV/AIDS, elderly, or infants) may be more at risk and should consult healthcare providers for advice.
Drinking water can contain small amounts of contaminants; presence doesn't always mean a health risk.
Water Quality Data:
All detected contaminants in 2023 were within safe limits.
Some data may be from earlier years due to testing schedules, but all results meet regulatory standards.
